Online and Offline Marketing for Your Home Based Business

Starting you a home based Internet business can be trickier than most people think when they first start out. Here you get some solid answers where your focuses should lie when you’re first starting out. That is if you want to survive your first year.

Starting your own home based business has many ups and downs to it. There are many more things to learn about being in business than most people realize before they start their own. Learning about and getting a handle on your marketing early on can make up for a multitude of sins when making it through those difficult first couple of years.

When it comes to advertising there are several different ways you can do this and some are going to work better than others. Finding your target market will be a key factor in order to be assured that you provide yourself the best possible outcome. In this article I will provide a few different ways you can advertise your business and hopefully one, if not more, will work for you. It is best to have 5 effective marketing programs generating business at any given time.

Newspaper Advertisement (Classifieds and Other Ads)

In some cases like Internet marketing where competition continues to get tighter and tighter, Newspapers are being overlooked. Remember how powerful the newspapers are. They cover all the news, good and bad, show job listings, and even advertise businesses. Though this can be quite costly, depending on how big you want the ad to be and how long you want it to run, it is still one of today’s best methods in getting the word out there about your business and what you can do for the public, especial in local markets.

Television Advertisement

This is not an option for most business. Let’s be honest, this is an expensive, although effective, way to get the word out. Most people in America own several televisions, or at the very least one they can find a way to view. You know as well as I do that when you are right in the middle of the best part of your favorite show, you can expect a commercial break. Commercials are where people who run businesses or offer some sort of service get to pay to have a few minutes to share their message with tens of thousands, sometimes millions of people. If you can afford it, why not put your service out there for the public to see and decide if it is something they want or need. We all know that even with TiVo, we still keep up with all the commercials, we just don’t have to watch them all, or as often.

Internet Advertisement

If you market is the X generation or younger, this seems to be one of the best and most inexpensive ways to get the word out about your business and the product or service you offer. The best part about it is that you can set up your company’s own website and you have a lot of flexibility when it come to messages that you can try, because with direct response marketing, your feedback can be almost immediate. Be sure when doing this though that you keep the information on your company’s website up to date with current information. The search engines are getting better and better about indexing and re-indexing your site and fresh content seems to help with your page ranking. Plus, if your information is not up to date, your customers may take this as a bad sign.
